Madison WI - Highway 30/Thompson Drive

While with the WIDOT Mark was the lead engineer working in a collaborative effort with The City of Madison, Dane County Highway Department to find solutions to existing traffic congestion and pedestrian and bicycle deficiencies associated with the Highway 30 / Thompson Drive (off ramp) and the Thompson Drive / Commercial Avenue County Trunk Highway T intersection (on ramp) See Figure 1&2. These intersections operate together as an interchange system and therefore any solution must include both intersections.

These two intersections serve as an interchange access point to State Hwy 30, which in turn provides direct links to major regional highways such as Interstates 90/94/39 and State Highways 151 and 51. Future residential growth is expected to the east and will add more traffic to these intersections as that growth is realized. Designed for 4,700 VPH & 2,700 VPH. Opened October 22, 2004.
